Most sellers believe their home is ready to show. It’s clean, it’s tidy, and from where they’re standing, it looks just fine. The trouble is that in today’s market, fine usually isn’t enough.

When a buyer walks through your door, they aren’t measuring your home against your expectations. They’re measuring it against the five or six other homes they toured that same weekend.

The ones that get the offers are the homes that feel right from the moment someone steps inside. So if you’re getting ready to sell, here are three things that help your home stand out.

1. Fix the small things. Loose door knobs, dripping faucets, burnt-out light bulbs, sticky doors. These feel minor, but buyers notice more than you’d think. And when the little stuff is broken, they start to wonder about the big stuff, too.

A few quick repairs go a long way toward keeping that doubt out of their head before it ever starts.

2. Depersonalize. Take down the family photos, clear off the countertops, and get rid of the clutter. You want buyers picturing themselves living there, not feeling like they’ve wandered into someone else’s home. The more neutral and open the space feels, the easier it is for them to imagine it as theirs.

3. Create a simple showing routine. Make the beds, turn on the lights, open the blinds, and get the pets out the door. Put it on a checklist if you have to. The goal is for your home to look its absolute best every single time someone walks in, not just the first time. You never know which showing brings the buyer who writes the offer.

Do these three things consistently, and your home stops being just fine and starts being the one buyers remember. That’s the home that gets the offer.
